King was born Michael King Jr. on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia, the second of three children to the Reverend Michael King Sr. and Alberta King (née Williams). King’s mother named him Michael, which was entered onto the birth certificate by the attending physician. King Sr. stated that “Michael” was a mistake by the physician. King’s older sister is Christine King Farris and his younger brother was A. D. King. King’s maternal grandfather Adam Daniel Williams, who was a minister in rural Georgia, moved to Atlanta in 1893, and became pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in the following year. Williams was of African-Irish descent. Williams married Jennie Celeste Parks, and they gave birth to King’s mother, Alberta. King’s father was born to sharecroppers, James Albert and Delia King of Stockbridge, Georgia. In his adolescent years, King Sr. left his parents’ farm and walked to Atlanta where he attained a high school education. King Sr. then enrolled in Morehouse College and studied to enter the ministry. King Sr. and Alberta began dating in 1920, and married on November 25, 1926. Until Jennie’s death in 1941, they lived together on the second floor of her parent’s two story Victorian house, where King was born.

Neuropsychologist Dr. Stan Rodski and brain scientist Dr. Joel Pearson both agree. In an interview, Dr. Rodski shares his belief that coloring for adults can encourage a relaxed state as the coloring individual focuses their attention on the detail and intricacies of a particular image. Similarly, Dr. Pearson explains that the therapeutic effect can be further understood by considering that the image you are coloring replaces any negative ones you may be harboring. It is just a fact of life that kids get bored all of the time. Or at least they believe they are bored. The truth is that these days there is plenty for kids to do. Particularly as computers open up more and more of the world at the click of a mouse. However not much online is suitable for children. And it is always a good idea to get kids involved with activities that require them to be creative. I can recall vividly my father introducing me to coloring in sheets as a hobby, and now I am doing the same with my child. Never mind how the world changes, our children nowadays love to color in just as much as we did when we were young. Kids love to show off what they can do by using their paints on the coloring sheets you give them. Learning the color of a chair, or an elephant, of flowers, sun, zebra, parrot etc, will not need mugging up, but mere practical activity that will leave an everlasting impression on these little developing minds. You can also engage them in activities like creating new colors by mixing 2 or 3 colors. This will make them understand the evolution of different colors, which is fun too..
